Job Description

Job Title: Service Technician Level 2

 

Summary:

Employee will be required to perform tire and auto-related service as well as other duties as assigned by the manager.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • All Tasks and Responsibilities as listed for Service Technician Level 1

  • Identify the education needs of others, and teaching or instruction others. 

  • Accurately and efficiently diagnose and repair vehicles.

  • Test drive the vehicles or and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.

  • Repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes.

  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brakes, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.

  • Confer with customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements.

  • Repair and service minor electrical systems.

  • Examine vehicles, compile estimates of repair costs, and secure customers’ approval to perform repairs.

  • Repair or replace defective ball joint suspensions, or wheel bearings.

  • Complete State Inspections according to the outlined procedures.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The environment may or may not be air conditioned/heated seasonally. Employees frequently work with dirty and greasy parts and in awkward positions. The employee must regularly lift up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific visions abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. As a result, minor workplace injuries are not uncommon, but employees usually can avoid serious accidents if safe practices are observed.

 

Education:

High school or equivalency; and/or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination or education and experience. Acquiring Nation Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is preferred. For employees completing State Vehicle Inspections proper licensure is required.
